Beautiful candles make a fantastic centerpiece for the holidays. For a natural option this winter, try these Wooden Rustic DIY Candle Holders! This candle holder craft is very affordable because you can get the main material for this DIY craft from your backyard tree. These home decor crafts are great as table decorations, mantle decorations, or wherever else you want to add some rustic charm. Tip: making the candle holders different heights is an easy way to add some unique variety. To perfect your DIY decoration, surround these DIY candle holders with other natural elements such as greenery.

Materials List

  • Tree branches
  • Sandpaper
  • Power drill and 1-1/2” spade drill bit
  • Tea lights
  • PowerGear2 Pruner
  • PowerGear2 Lopper (25")
  • Folding Saw

Instructions

  1. Pick a tree or shrub that is in need of heavy trimming and use a lopper to remove unwanted branches. The PowerGear2 Lopper (25") can cut branches up to 1 ¾ inch thick. These loppers make trimming much easier, with the patented gear technology giving you more power in the center of the cut.

  2. Use a Folding Saw to cut any branches thicker than 1 ¾ inch that you want to use for the candle holders. I like the look of a birch branch, but this project could be made with branches from any type of tree that needs trimming and is readily available.

  3. Take the PowerGear2 Pruner and trim away any smaller twigs from your cut branches to give them a cleaner look.

  4. Sand the ends of the logs with sandpaper to soften them, and to remove any rough edges that could cause cuts or slivers.

  5. Place a 1 ½” spade drill bit into a power drill and drill a hole in the center of each log for a tea light to be placed.

  6. Place a tea light in the drilled hole. Use as a single candle holder or repeat with as many as you would like to fill out your centerpiece, varying the height of your branches and accenting with other natural elements like berries and greenery.

I love these rustic wooden candles but they hold a big price and so I do not buy them. It is good to know that you can make them very cheap if you can get someone to cut the branch and have the tools to drill a hole. I am keeping this for future refrence because they can be used for many occasions too.

I've seen these candle holders in stores, so it's great to know I can make them myself. I can definitely envision a group of them sitting on my fireplace mantle.

Ohh, these are so cute! Could totally see myself making these and displaying them )
