I need these. My patio door faces the afternoon sun. It gets very hot in here. We also have quite a lot of heat leaking out in the colder months. I have a large bamboo rod that I use for my curtains, so I would have to modify this project, but I think that adding straps of matching (or complimenting) material would work well. If anyone has suggestions I would love to read them.

This is a cost-effective solution in the wintertime too! If you live in an older home like I have, so,eti,Es those windows can leak out your heat and you can feel the cold air seeping in, thus overworking the furnace or radiators! If you are not handy with grommets, you can sew a double sided, or padded band at the top with a rod pocket sewn in, or sew tabs at evenly spaced intervals. You can pull them open when needed, but they will need to be substantial to take the weight of the drapes. Great project!
