Looking for ways to spook up your home this Halloween season? This Paper Straw Halloween Mantel Decor project is a fun craft to make with the kids. Gather up those purple, orange, black and white straws lying around your pantry and get to crafting! You can make this garland as long or short as you'd like to make sure it fits your mantel. This Halloween decor piece can be reused for the following years to come. If your mantel is a little too crowded already with decor, dress your staircase up with these spooky straws.

From the Blogger: "Make your fireplace mantel spooky cool with a BOO-tiful Halloween garland. It's an easy way to make a creative statement and can be done on a budget. And this is how I used paper straws (yes, paper straws!) in Halloween patterns to create an interesting touch of spooky decor to my mantel. String these straws along with Halloween glass beads and group with a festive burlap ribbon for a quick Halloween project. It's also a great way to get the kids involved in the decorating!"

  • Glass beads
  • Paper straws
  • Bakers twine

DIY Project Instructions

  1. Determine the length of garland you need. Begin to string paper straws through the bakers twine.

  2. Once you've reached your desired length, insert a glass bead on each end of the twine. Double (or triple) knot to secure.

  3. Continue in this fashion until you have created a collection of paper straw strands.

  4. Group the paper straw strands at each end with an oversized decorative ribbon.

  5. Attach to your fireplace mantel or hang around a doorway for some fang-tastic Halloween decor!

NotesNote from the Designer: Vary the placement of the glass beads to make each paper straw strand different.
