Christmas is a magical time of year, and decorations are one of the many great Christmas projects that can help you feel that magic surround you. It may seem like a good idea to have 5 nativity sets (one for every room on the main floor), 6 strings of garland, 10 sets of lights, and 15 variations of Santa Claus, but you don’t want to be regretting those buying decisions when it comes time to pack it all away till next winter.
This collection of DIY storage ideas will provide you with projects and inspiration for storing all your Christmas decorations. Whether you have a plethora of cords and wires that constantly tangle in mangled up knots, or you simply can’t find a storage box that fits all your tree ornaments comfortably, you can find a solution to your storage struggles in the collection below.
DIY Shelves for Storing Decorations
Sometimes, installing some decent DIY shelves is all you need to fix your storage struggles. Instead of piling everything in a heap on the floor, why not use that wall space for shelves so that all your boxes can be easily accessible and clearly seen? When you build your own shelves, you are guaranteed that they will fit in the space you have available, and you can personalize their size to whatever you need to store.
Have a space for that tall box for the snowman statue you keep by your front door and a spot for the wide box that holds the display trays for your famous Christmas cookies. Make shelves on wheels so it can be pulled out when needed but tucked away the other 10 months of the year. These DIY shelves projects will help you store everything exactly as it needs to be.

These ideas are so great! Our family usually just ends up tossing our decorations in the top of our hall closet, so come holiday season, it's just an avalanche of lights, ornaments, and glitter. Thanks for ideas!

My family is notoriously bad at storing our Christmas decorations. The lights are always tangled or some of the bulbs are broken. Our nativity set has seen better days. It's covered in glitter and some of the wise men are missing heads. I'm going to have to forward this to my parents so maybe we can do better this year.
