"When I first decided to make my own pumpkin pie spice it was out of necessity. We are pumpkin pie maniacs in the Fall and were constantly running out of the spice. One very late night when I was making cookies I realized I needed pumpkin pie spice and we were OUT...and I did not want to go to the store! Then it hit me - I bet I have all the ingredients to make my own...and I did! Now, I can adjust my flavors to our family's tastes!

Pumpkin Pie Tips + Bonus Steps for Making a Pumpkin Pie

Pre-bake your crust for a few minutes before adding your filling.

Process a fresh pumpkin for your filling.
Why should you process fresh pumpkin?
"Preserving pumpkin pulp over the winter is quite a tradition. My family is crazy about pumpkin recipes, we enjoy them all year round and we hate seeing those beautiful pumpkins we use at Halloween go to waste once fall is over. And what better way to enjoy their benefits than freezing pumpkin pulp in individual packets over the winter? Perfect way to preserve their quality and taste!"

Strain your fresh pumpkin puree so you don't have a soggy pie before making your filling.
-
Always wait for your oven to preheat before baking so your dessert will cook evenly.
-
Mend any broken spots in the crust by getting it a little wet to soften it and molding it back together.
-
Remove your pie from the oven before it is fully set to avoid cracks in your filling. The pie will set up as it continues to cook outside the oven.

My favorite pumpkin recipe (besides the classic pie with a TON of whipped cream) is pumpkin donuts or pumpkin cupcakes. Give me all of the pumpkin baked goods.

I have never thought to make pumpkin donuts or pumpkin cupcakes but I will be adding this to my list this year. I also love pumpkin baked goods and can not wait for them each holiday. I make a pumpkin pie and bread each year for the holidays and they are always a hit.Do you have a recipe for the donuts? Would love to make some.
