How to Make Floor Pillow Poufs

This DIY tutorial will show you how to make a 20" x 14" pouf!

DIY Project Instructions

  1. Cut two 20"x 20" inch squares of fabric (these will be the top & bottom of your pouf).

  2. Cut four 20" x 14" squares of fabric. Alternately, you can cut two 20" x 28" strips of fabric (these will form the sides of your pouf).

  3. Pin right sides of 20" x 14" or 20" x 28" pieces together. Stitch seams to form a “tube” of fabric.

  4. Pin 20" x 20" square to one side of the fabric “tube,” being careful to align the corners.

  5. Sew seams to form a base. Don’t worry if the sides don’t align perfectly…you may need to form a small pleat in some places. This won’t be noticeable when the pouf is stuffed.

  6. Pin remaining square, and sew 3 sides. On the fourth side, leave an opening to insert stuffing into.

  7. Turn pouf right side out, and stuff with polyfill until you reach your desired firmness.

  8. Stitch the opening closed.

I do not know about your family but the young ones in our household just LOVE floor cushions! All of them have floor cushions in their rooms, made by me and in varying shapes, sizes, patterns and colors according to their wildly differing preferences. This one is really nice and is one is going to be a huge favorite in the family room which I already know means I am going to have to made three, one for each. Sigh.

Super comfy looking! This could be fun to use for movie night!

Super cute pouf that would be an awesome addition to a casual living room or a playroom. Easily customizable by choosing coordinating fabric too. I would image that kids would love these for playing or watching movies and they would also work as an ottoman. Adding some quirky trim or tassels would be a fun way to embellish this cute pouf.

This looks like a great additional to my home decor. It's a good size, too. I might not have enough of one kind of fabric for the whole pouf, so maybe I will make it different on top and bottom, or patchwork. There are lots of ways you could style it! Pinned it.

I absolutely LOVE floor poufs! I have seen them in all the home decor magazines and home stores, but cannot afford them. It's so nice to find a tutorial so I can make them myself! I think that it will be fun to customize them to my home's colour scheme. They would be a fun and non-committal way to add a fun pattern or pop of colour to the living room. They would be so comfortable to throw down when company come over. I think it will take a bit of playing to get the amount of polyfill stuffing right, so that they are squishy, but still a bit firm. I'll will have to experiment and make a few of these. I bet that they would make great housewarming gifts!

These look so comfy! I'd love one for my dorm room. I always find myself working on the floor when I have a big project!

I love floor poufs! They're so comfortable and give everyone a place to sit.
