This would be a fun project to help older kids learn patience and pattern, and I could see this being a great gift not only for a teacher, but anyone who loves to sew or crafts! It would be so cute in a sewing room or perhaps a math teacher! Tape measures come in many colors, and when one has seen better days, this is a cute way to give it new life!

Definitely sending this to my cousin, who is a kindergarten teacher. What a cute classroom decoration this would be for the new school year!
