Do you have a secret love of interior design? The I Like That Lamp Kit gives you the ability to control design details like the fabric on your lampshade. You can also make a lamp out of anything from wine bottles to antique mailboxes. “I Like That Lamp” puts all the tools in your hands, and their simple tutorials will walk you through the steps to making a lamp or lampshade.

Here at DIYIdeaCenter.com, I tried out I Like That Lamp’s DIY lampshade kit. I Like That Lamp sells both American and English style lampshades (the difference is where the lampshade attaches to the lamp). I made the American-style version, which attaches at the top of the lamp above the bulb.

Making a lampshade is something I never really thought about. You just take lampshades for granted as a part of your outer world. Choosing the fabric for my lampshade and assembling the whole thing myself was so satisfying! It’s a nice reminder of how much you can accomplish with just your hands, the right tools and a little effort.

I Like That Lamp provided everything I needed to make my lampshade, including the glue, clips, rings, adhesive, even a little stick to spread the glue. The only thing I had to pick up was the fabric. Admittedly, it was fun to shop around for a unique fabric that I could apply to the adhesive.

This kit would make a fun gift for anyone with a DIY soul. It could be especially cute to give this kit to newlyweds or new homeowners and let them take creative control of their home. Let me tell you, people really did tell me they liked my lampshade – and it’s one of a kind.

This lampshade project is really nice! So many times you want something different that can be a focal point and unique to you and this is it! In addition to the cover of the shade itself, another option might be to add a strip of crossgrain ribbon to the top and bottom outside edges, or to use clear craft glue to affix some flat bottomed glass beads or gems to the lamp in either a random pattern, or on a row on top or bottom. Add a glass crystal finial to,the top it your lamp design allows for it, for even added sparkle! Great idea!
