One of the cutest ways to DIY a project is adding handlettered elements. Handlettering is "the art of drawing letters". This art may sound intimidating to some, especially folks who may not have the neatest handwriting, but never fear! Authors Melissa Averinos and Asharae Kroll will equip you with the tools you need in DIY Handlettering. Divided into tools, basic styles, and more, this book includes the basics as well as "25 handcrafted, handlettered projects you can make!"

Start with the basics and practice handlettering with simple pen and paper. This advice comes straight from the "Tools of the Trade" section of the book, and several following worksheets allow you to practice, practice, practice! Learn a variety of lovely handlettering styles to master. Chapter 2, "Basic Handlettering Styles", includes 7 styles total plus dozens of variations on each style. Plus, each style literally includes practice sheets similar to lined pages used to learn cursive in grade school. The practice sheets are a helpful and charming touch.

Chapter 3, "Taking Your Handlettering a Step Further", includes various swirls, banners, embellishments, and more that you can draw to really add lovely touches to your handlettered projects. Follow the examples given and let these ideas inspire you to come up with your own charming flourishes.

The remaining chapters in this charming book include the 25 projects you can make featuring handlettered designs. I'm a paper crafter myself, so many of my favorite projects are found in Chapter 8: "Happy Mail." The Personalized Journals project (p. 181) is probably my favorite because I'm always writing in notebooks!

If you're looking to add a personal touch to a DIY mug, journal, scarf, or any other project, consider taking up handlettering! DIY Handlettering will equip you with all of the tools you need to get started with this fabulous new skill.

I am one of those people who have horrible handwriting and I feel like this would really help me give my craft that personal touch. I always resort to stenciling but I'd like to learn some new skills.
