What a fun way to organize the bedroom and make a set of shelves from your old dresser. I can see picking up a quick find at the thrift store for about 20 to 40 bucks and transforming it into a nice place to put all my collectibles or console games even.

The older dressers usually do have that 'dust' shelf in between the drawers, but if it doesn't then you would need to add them in. If any of the drawers are in decent shape as far as structure goes, you could place the on top and make cubbies out of them. Another cool technique is covering the interior with wallpaper or fabric and sealing with a decoupage type product. You can even change out the back part by wrapping cardboard in fabric or wallpaper or decorative paper, and then swap it out later as your decor or needs change. Especially true of this is used in a kid's room. Cool!

Oh my word, this is such a lovely idea and we have just such an old dresser, currently unused and unloved, in our storeroom! I never have enough storage in my studio so this is going to be such a fulfilling project. I can already see exactly the colors I would like to have so now it is just a matter of moving the dresser out of the storeroom and getting started.

I guess this is one of those Why didnt I think of that? moments. The chest of drawers has the nice, sturdy frame to convert into shelves. I love the look of the varnished top - but Im also thinking about the enormous range of variations you could apply to this project? Like bright, bold colours for a childs room, or stencilled cartoon characters on a plain background? Or for the very artistic, hand painted designs on the sides - flowers, rainbows, unicorns? My imagination is running away with me here.
