How to Refinish a Dresser
-
Clean piece well before starting.
-
Hand sand with fine grit sandpaper entire surface.
-
Paint several coats waiting for each coat to fully dry and lightly sand between coats (used spray paint but brush on paint would be fine).

Seal completely with a brush. I did three coats of a gloss poly acrylic lightly hand sanding between the last two coats.

Paint really can rescue old furniture. I have painted many pieces that have nice bones, but surface damage that really can't be repaired. I love the curvy arms on the mirror of this dresser and am glad that it was rescued, especially because it was her grandmother's. I love the glass knobs too, they really look nice on a black dresser. Great job.
