I love this idea, plaid is everywhere at the minute as well. I only got my first sewing machine at Christmas and have been too afraid to try it yet but I hope i can do something like this as a first project. Could you add the likes of a shower curtain or old rain mac to the under part if it was been used a picnic rug and incase the grass was wet?

I have a weakness for plaid. I love this! This would be so easy to make with thrifted plaid shirts.
