DIY Lipstick Organizer Instructions

  1. Gather Your Materials: As always, you will want to start by gathering all your materials, so they are ready for you to use.

  2. Cut the Tops: Taking your Xacto knife cut the tops off of all of your pill boxes.

  3. Cut the Bottom: Taking only one of your three pill boxes, cut out the bottom of it. This is so that you can stack it on top of one of your other pill boxes so you have a layered liptick organizer.

  4. Sand the Edges: Lightly sand down all the edges that you just trimmed so that they are nice and smooth. Since you are working with plastic, you might want a grittier sandpaper to really smooth out those edges.

  5. Glue Your Stacked Top and Bottom Together: Using your super strong hold craft glue, place a thin string along the entire outter edge of the pill box you cut the bottom out of. Hold this in place for a few seconds to make sure it holds.

  6. Glue the Front: Taking your third pill box that has the tops cut off, apply a line of glue along the back edge of it. Press that against the front of your stacked pill boxes and hold for a few seconds.

You will want to allow this to dry for at least one hour.

  7. Sand the Glue: Taking a softer sand paper, you will want to sand down the edges where there may be any dried glue sticking out. Be gentle when you are doing this so you do not cause the glue to come undone.

  8. Paint: Using regular paint or spray paint pant your pill boxes makeing sure to get the inside and outside of your box. Allow this to dry completely, possibly overnight.

Note: If you are choosing to spray paint your box you will want to go into a well ventilated  area before spraying your box

  9. Decorate: Using your ribbon or washi tape, decorate your DIY lipstick organizer however you would like. You can glue on rhinestones, or to cover up the lines where you connected the pill boxes add your ribbon / washi tape.

  10. Add your lipsticks into your new organizer and admire your beautiful DIY lipstick holder!

This is so super creative and clever! And it is so inexpensive to create. Not only for lipsticks, but you could organize your makeup brushes, mascara and liner if they are short enough. You may have to add some weight at the bottom by gluing in some magnets or metal slugs or rings to keep it from tipping over if you use it to store taller or heavier items. You could extend this idea to make it an art center, holding smaller brushes, crayons, chalk, or even as a message center. So clever and inspiring....thanks for sharing!

I'm currently keeping my lipstick tubes with my brushes. I really admire how crafty this idea is. I would have never thought pill tubes could end up looking this chic and functional.

What a cute piece to place on your desk! This little organizer is perfect for easy access. Now I don't have to dig through my drawers to find the perfect lip gloss!

I love that from a distance, you wouldn't even think it was made from one of those daily pill containers. That's incredible. Truly a fascinating and cheap idea!
