What a splendid idea. The purpose for toothpaste is to clean your teeth so all the added stuff is just a way for big company to make more money.

Recipes dont get much simpler than this. Baking soda for a light abrasive and to add that lovely, fresh, clean taste - and coconut oil as a carrier. Yes, you can add peppermint flavouring and some colouring if desired. But this is more for aesthetics than function. And what an incredible saving, when you compare the cost of commercial toothpastes these days? I suppose, to encourage the kids to use it, you could always experiment with food colourings and maybe make stripes or swirls of colours?

The idea of making your own toothpaste is priceless. All things homemade are better because you know what you have. My son takes the time to create homemade toothpaste for the family and distributes as gifts during the winter holidays. I will have to share this recipe with him.

My sister once made a toothpaste using a tutorial she found online and it was horrible. I think toothpaste should incorporate some mint flavor. that is what is going to make you stick to your homemade toothpaste instead of bailing after two uses.

Such a simple DIY! I am definitely going to have to try this. I am always running out of toothpaste and having to make an extra trip to the store.
