We're excited to introduce Lisa Mecham from Creative Fashion Blog as a guest blogger on DIYIdeaCenter.com! Enjoy her luxurious recipe for homemade body butter.

How often have you tried a new skincare product, only to cause another a bad reaction? Regardless of if it comes in the form of breakouts, irritation, or lack of moisture, anything less than beautifully glowing skin feels like a let-down.

So often, we focus on our skin’s pH levels and how to balance them, when really what we should be focusing on is applying nourishing products that won’t clog your pores.

Because of this, finding (or making) natural beauty products just may be the answer you’re looking for.

Not only does creating your own products give you complete control over what you are applying to your skin, it also allows you to customize and tweak ingredients to give your skin the nourishment it’s craving.

Like most cosmetics, our beauty products are packed with fillers, chemicals, and other mystery ingredients. These fillers just take up valuable space in our bottles so the high-impact (but more expensive ingredients) like Shea butter and Argan Oil are still included- yet don’t make as big an impact.

When you take a look at the inexpensive beauty products you already have, you’ll often see the bragged-about ingredients closer to the bottom of the ingredient list. They likely will not be in the top 3.

That’s why today’s DIY body butter comes with simple, straightforward ingredients. The best part? This recipe only calls for three ingredients. Three.

Homemade Body Butter without Coconut Oil

Shea Butter

Shea butter naturally contains high levels of fatty acids and skin-nourishing vitamins. It also is a natural anti-inflammatory and possesses skin-healing properties. Overall, Shea Butter is the perfect base for skin-softening, moisturizing beauty recipes that ranks at a level 0 on the Comedogenic Scale. (So, it absolutely will not clog your beautiful pores.) It's the perfect base for a homemade body butter without coconut oil.

Castor Oil

Castor Oil ranks at a level 1 on the Comedogenic Scale, which means it will not clog your pores. The essential fatty acids naturally found in Castor Oil aid in preventing wrinkles, fighting acne, and reducing puffiness with its anti-inflammatory properties. Castor Oil is the less popular, but equally impressive beauty oil you should consider incorporating into your beauty routine.

Argan Oil

Argan Oil has been used in everything from hair conditioners to facial oils for its intense healing properties. It’s high in Vitamin E and fatty acids, making it incredibly hydrating. It also absorbs easily (leaving no greasy residue). Argan Oil impressively rates at level 0 on the Comedogenic Scale meaning it is the safest bet at not clogging your pores and causing irritation.

Ingredients

-- 2 cups Shea Butter
-- ½ Cup Argan Oil
-- 1 Cup Castor Oil

How To Make Whipped Body Butter That Won’t Clog Your Pores

To begin, melt the Shea Butter and Castor Oil on a double boiler over medium heat. If you don’t have a double boiler, take a pot of water and stack a glass or metal bowl inside to create one. The entire purpose on a boiler is to get the heat from the boiling water to melt the oils evenly rather than burn on the stove. Stir as the mixture is melting and then remove from the heat once it’s completely melted.

Once the Shea butter and Castor Oil cool to room temperature, add the Argan Oil. Stir to mix and then let cool until it becomes opaque. You may want to set your bowl in the refrigerator to speed up the process.

Once your DIY body butter is cooled, it’s time to mix and whip! Use a standard hand mixer to blend until you like the texture. The longer you mix, the fluffier and more “whipped” your body butter will be.

I mixed mine for about 20 minutes to create the ultra-light, fluffy consistency but you could also whip for about 5 to create a more thick  creamy texture.

Now spoon it into a bottle and enjoy! I filled 3 Wide Mouth Jars with one batch after whipping the body butter to double its liquid size. Save one, and giving a few to some friends before you make more!

This whipped body butter is nourishing on my skin and absorbs quickly. You will absolutely love applying it every day for softer, more supple skin. Use a small amount all over your body and store at room temperature in an airtight container. I really hope you love this beauty recipe as much as I do!
