When I run out of cough drops and throat lozenges I resort to something more natural and budget friendly. I make mine just like this except I don't use cayenne pepper or apple cider vinegar. I heard that drinking a diluted cup of account everyday was beneficial so I guess it can relive colds too. I'd leave out the pepper and make this into a drink that I can warm up and drink before I go to bed.

My mom has been doing this for quite some time already. But she only had one ingredient, ginger. She would bring it to boil then let me drink it. I add honey to make a bit sweeter. And honey actually is also a remedy for sore throat. Just so you know.

Good recipe, but mine was watery rather than syrupy. I played around with another batch and boiled some organic sugar in a small amount of water until it was honey consistency so it would be safe for someone with pollen issues who cant eat honey. If you dont like the heat from cayenne, you can add dried, powdered mint leaves to taste. Mint goes well with ginger and has mild healing properties.

I remember as a kid when we would get a cold my dad would push ginger on us, me and my brother used to go mad....it's funny seen it in this recipe years later) My partner came down with a cold over the weekend so I might try this recipe on him, fingers crossed it works!

I definitely needed this last week for my unexpected summer cold. This home remedy is one to try next time!
